Effects of climate change
Low lying areas are looking for effective ways to ensure a climate proof future. The effects of climate change will be researched thoroughly for five countries: Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and United Kingdom. They join forces to collect state of the art data revealing the true impact of the climate change on their region:
- an increase in average and extreme temperature
- more abundant rainfall
- heavier and more frequent storms
- periods of drought
- sea level rise
- coastal and inland flooding
- salt intrusion
The report (Work Package 1 report) describes the impact of climate change in the North Sea Region and also focuses on the existing adaptation policies and measures already taken and planned.
Ghent University is in charge of this fundamental research. Once we know more about the effects of climate change, we can work towards a safe, bio diverse and prosperous future.
