Province of Zeeland
The Province of Zeeland is the lead partner in Climate Proof Areas. This engagement fits perfectly into the goals of the Provincial Executive: to gather the knowledge and create instruments needed for evacuations and to protect against floods, and to develop a climate agenda dealing with issues such as the strengthening of coastal defences and CO2 emissions.
The province aims to be an innovator in adapting the island of Schouwen-Duiveland to the climate change. On Schouwen-Duiveland, the solutions that strengthen the coastal defence will be combined with social and economic problems. The province will be a driving force in 4 projects:
- Schouwen-Duiveland, an adaptation plan to make the island climate proof
- Sand nourishments, testing a innovative way of coastal defence
- Shell fish reefs, testing a brand new way of coastal defence
- Hanging beaches, testing an innovative technique of coastal defence
